The TANUKI or raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) is an Asian canine variant most similar to a fox, with a dark mask around the eyes, like a raccoon. It features in folklore and some computer games as a shapeshifter. Skulls are sometimes acquired from road kill or trapping when animals are prolific and become pest species.
