Eurypelma spinicrus is a small tarantula and relatively harmless. Asian tarantulas including the Queensland bird-eating spider are relatively aggressive and relatively dangerous compared with their New World counterparts. There are no recorded deaths. The literature is confusing concerning this species and a common name (eg, cocoa tarantula) is never definitive.
